Just in case you are wondering what all the fuss is about... let me explain.
In 2010, I attended a 12 session (4-5hrs per session) course on quilt making, a further 2 sessions (2-3hrs per session) on hand quilting and one session on machine binding a quilt (2-3hrs). I have completed one 60"x60" quilt (machine pieced and hand quilted)... and since then a few smaller quilt projects.
So, in terms of quilting, I'm still a novice! That is why this 'Waves for Tommy' project is such a challenge for me... the size of the quilt is a challenge... the design is a challenge... and the machine quilting is a challenge, as I have never machine quilted before!
I know that Tommy's efforts are way beyond the challenge I have set for myself - ridiculous even to state that fact, but the point is I wanted to see if I could do it... so, it may not be a perfect quilt... but it will be a quilt made for all the right reasons... mainly to show my support for Tommy's humongous effort... and fantastic achievement, might I add... to do something positive in supporting a wonderful charity called 'Mind' and to show Tommy and his family that all they have done has been noticed and much appreciated... whilst doing something that was also challenging for me and would therefore require some effort on my part.
I hope this makes the situation a little clearer.
Thanks for your support.
Catherine
